POINTS OF INTEREST/EVENTS

Residents can head to a variety of nearby retreats that include Azalea Park, the Botanical Garden, Harris Beach State Park, Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area, Loeb State Park or Sporthaven Beach. The populace can traverse the Oregon Coast Trail or the Redwood Nature Trail for hiking at every level. Residents can also head to the Port of Brookings Harbor for fishing, shopping and fresh seafood. Area events include the Azalea Festival which features a street fair, parade, arts and crafts and a car show; the Brookings-Harbor Home Show; the popular Chamber TV & Live Auction’ the nearby Curry County Fair; and the Festival of the Arts at the Port of Brookings Harbor on the Boardwalk.

EDUCATION

Served by the Brookings-Harbor School District, area schools include Kalmiopsis Elementary, Azalea Middle School and the Brookings-Harbor High School. Brookings Harbor Christian School is the private school in the area. Higher education in the area is provided by Southwestern Oregon Community College, Rogue Community College and Southern Oregon University, to name a few.

ECONOMY

Historically based in lumber and fishing, Brookings’ economy has evolved into the service sectors. With a strong horticultural industry, the area is the sole provider of every lily bulb produced in North America. Brookings is less dependent on tourism than other towns throughout the Pacific Northwest.
